OMAHA, NEBRASKA – In an exciting development for sports enthusiasts and the local community, Nebraska Realty is thrilled about the recent expansion announcement of Tranquility Park in Omaha. With a remarkable investment of $54 million from the city, Tranquility Park is set to transform into a premier youth multi-sport complex, solidifying Omaha's position as a top tournament destination.

The ambitious plans for Tranquility Park include the construction of up to 16 synthetic turf multipurpose flat fields and up to 11 synthetic turf baseball and softball fields. Additionally, the project encompasses improved parking and concessions. Notably, this expansion will also spur the growth of new hotels, restaurants, and retail businesses along North 120th Street, between Maple and Fort Streets.

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We need more high-quality athletic fields to serve youth throughout our community. Upgrades to Tranquility Park will provide greater access for all players in Omaha and the opportunity to host regional and national tournaments." The city will be the primary source of funding for the improvements, with the possibility of philanthropic support.

Tranquility Park, located at 120th and Maple, has been managed by the Omaha Parks and Recreation Department for the past 50 years, serving as the city's sole public soccer complex. Currently, the park boasts 17 soccer fields, including one synthetic turf field, and eight natural turf baseball fields.

According to a 2020 study conducted by the Huddle Up Group, the recommended improvements for Tranquility Park involve the addition of eight to 15 synthetic turf multipurpose fields and eight to 11 baseball and softball synthetic turf fields.

Construction for the project is slated to commence in 2024, starting with the soccer fields, while the enhancements to the baseball and softball facilities will begin in 2026. The anticipated completion of all improvements is scheduled for 2027.

Deborah Ward, the executive director of Visit Omaha, described the updates and upgrades as a "game changer." She remarked, "When complete, the updated playing fields will give us the opportunity to attract at least 20 new regional and national youth sporting events to our city. Those tournaments are projected to bring in more than $78 million in direct visitor spending every year."

The impact of these developments extends beyond sporting events and tourism. The transformation of Tranquility Park into a premier youth multi-sport complex is expected to have a significant effect on the community and property values. Nebraska Realty representatives expressed their excitement about the projects, recognizing the potential for growth, neighborhood revitalization, and economic development in Northwest Omaha.

"This is a fabulous project that families from all over our city will be able to use and enjoy. I am excited about the growth and development this is generating in Northwest Omaha," said City Council Vice-President Aimee Melton, who represents District 7, including Tranquility Park.

The addition of high-quality athletic facilities will provide an avenue for Omaha's youth to participate in organized soccer, baseball, and softball. Estimates show that more than 45,000 children in Omaha engage in these sports, with two-thirds of the city's youth soccer league games currently taking place at Tranquility Park.

Synthetic turf fields offer numerous advantages, including increased hours of play, longer seasons, and lower maintenance costs. The inclusion of synthetic turf in the expansion plans reflects a commitment to providing the best possible experience for players and fans.

Matt Kalcevich, the director of Parks and Recreation, emphasized the significance of youth athletics, stating, "Tranquility will be a championship-level sports complex that will draw teams from all Omaha neighborhoods.
