Flanagan Lake
A new lake with history! Trails abound throughout the Anchor Pointe neighborhood which connects to the trails of Flanagan Lake. The lake was named after Father Edward J. Flanagan, founder of Boys Town which is located about 7 miles southeast of the lake. Father Flanagan started Boys Town in 1917 after he saw a need to help adolescent and teen boys, regardless of race or religion, who needed guidance, structure, and a loving environment.
Over 100 years later, Boys Town continues to serve at-risk boys and girls at the village of Boys Town in Omaha, NE along with 9 other sites across the country. A Boys Town-themed park with kid-friendly playground equipment and benches conveniently located around the area honors the history of the lake’s namesake.
Flanagan Lake opened to the public in the summer of 2018. The lake was developed by Nebraska’s Natural Resources District (NRD), and it serves as flood control for the Papillion Creek Watershed. The lake covers 220 acres and boasts a 5-mile hiking/biking trail.
